Fred Coates Memorial Park

Greetings from MacGregor!
This is the newly erected Gazebo in the new park that has been donated to the Village of MacGregor. This park was dedicated to the late Mr. Fred Coates, a Kinette husband. The park was developed in partnership with the MacGregor Coop (which Fred worked for years), the Macgregor Kinettes and the Community in Bloom. There was a beautiful dedication held during the Macgregor 125 Homecoming as the Coop dedicated the park to the family and the family turned over the park to the Village. Together this park has become both a beautiful memorial as well as a funtional setting for the citizens of MacGregor!

The Fort City Kinettes of Thunder Bay host an annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. This successful event is held the Sunday before Easter from 10:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. Tickets have been $5.00 each (kids under 3 are free). Over 1000 people attend this breakfast of pancakes, sausages, taters, juice/ coffee. Businesses and organizations support this event by generously donating food items, monetary gifts, gifts for our raffle or purchasing block tickets. As a way of acknowledging their support, their logo and business name is advertised on placemats used at the Breakfast. There are over 100 dedicated volunteers that come out and help the day of the event. The children enjoy visiting with the Easter Bunny (who gives each child an Easter loot bag), along with other popular characters, as well as clowns, facepainting and colouring. There is a raffle draw held with three gifts (the first always being a handrafted toy box filled with toys), the second is a framed crosstich donated by an honourary Fort City Kinette and the third is also a donated gift. Proceeds from this event go to research for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and to other children's charities.
